Noting JMAN98's comments, I'm not optimistic. But I'd ask: are there some brands that usually ARE amenable to region-free hacks? Philips and Pioneer models are may still be hackable and I've seen reports that suggest that Insignia may be hackable too. However I cannot personally confirm any of those hacks on BluRay players. Typically hacks on BluRay players only make them region free for DVD playback. You can't buy their models in stores like Best Buy, but Oppo players are supposed to still be hackable for DVD and BluRay playback.
Their models require a hardware modification for this that either you or the seller will have to do to make the player region free. I must thank 'mxm' in the Whirlpool forum for this solution. It does work (on 2nd attempt for me). I know that I started the 'repeat' 7 6 8 8 4 process whilst the blue light was still on during the 'press eject button'. Whether that helped or not, who knows? In any case, I was very happy to see the '4' appear in the top right of the TV screen. To quote 'mxm.
Just confirming this does work for DVDs, so good news. The instructions for the bd d5500 didn't quite apply since there isn't a physical tray. This is what I did and it worked: 1. Ensure there is no disk in the player 2. Turn off and turn on the player (clean boot) 3. Wait for the menu to appear on your tv Now this is a bit tricky, you'll have to be quick, you'll probably have to try a couple of times.
DVD Hack for Samsung BD-C5500. Somehow I found a thread here talking about a different Samsung model where a hack seemed to be working. Hi How do I unlock region code on Samsung BDC6500. I have samsung bd-p1000 with region code 1. BD-C6500 software release. Samsung BD-H6500 - hack region 2 to multi. Samsung BD-C5500 region free. Tried all the methods mentioned in this hack post on an Amercan Region 1 BD-C6500. Just applied the DVD hack for the Samsung BD.
Press the eject button (on the remote or on the display) 5. Press the eject button again 6. On your remote, in one smooth motion, press 'repeat' 7 6 8 8 4 7.
As soon as you see the '4' appear on the top right of your tv, press 9. Your player is now region free for DVDs. Please note: as you've probably found all over the web, this works for Australian players, most likely not for others.
Here’s a simple guide to unlock your Region 2 DVD player to Region 9 making it multi-region and able to play all DVD’s from across the world. When entering the actual code, the secret is to have consistent timing during key presses and not pressing the buttons as quickly as possible. • Press the POWER button on the DVD remote to turn the DVD player On. Make sure there is no disc in the tray. • Wait until the unit is fully started and your TV is showing the Samsung logo screen. • Press EJECT on the DVD remote to open the DVD tray.
• Close the DVD tray, by pressing the EJECT button again, and wait for the “No Disc” message to appear in the top left corner of your TV. • Press the REPEAT button on the DVD remote, followed by the five digit Region 2 code. In this case press REPEAT followed by 57538 (be constant with your key press timingsdo not rush or take too long). • If you’re successful you’ll see a number 2 appear in the top left corner of your TV. If not, power down the DVD player and repeat steps from 1. This will set the DVD player to Region 9 making it region free. • Press EJECT on the DVD remote to open the DVD tray.
• Press EJECT on the DVD remote to close the DVD tray. • Press POWER on the DVD remote to power down the player. • Now power the unit on again and it should be able to read all DVDs from all regions. Insert a non-Region 2 disc to test and confirm.
Hello Raj, I sincerely appreciate the great tips. I have however a problem I haven’t seen discussed here (or elsewhere on similar forums) regarding making the Samsung BD E-5500 3D Blu-Ray player region-free. When I power off, power on, open and close disc-tray, I keep getting the Samsung menu screen on the TV-screen (the one with Smart-hub, Setting, CD/USB/All-share, etc.) which has an overlay text-box saying “no Disc inserted” and below a highlighted “OK” box. When I hit “return”, “stop” or any other button, it just eliminates the overlay text box saying “no disc inserted” and the same Samsung menu screen appears. Fire Emblem Souen No Kiseki Isolation. Note, tried it with both Samsung TV, Sony TV and LG TV same thing happens. The menu-screen is definitely coming from the player, not the TV.
